Known for his creativity and energy, he is recognised as one of the best restructuring practitioners in Canada. He is currently acting for JTI-Macdonald Corp., an applicant in the CCAA restructuring of the tobacco industry in Canada, described by the presiding judge as one of the most complex restructurings in Canadian history. He is also acting for the Monitor in the restructurings in Canada of Carillion Group and Performance Sports Group Ltd. He recently lead the restructuring of Coopers & Lybrand, whereby the “longest running legal saga in Canadian history” has been resolved through a powerful and creative use of the CCAA. He also was the lead restructuring counsel for the largest creditor and DIP lender to U. S. Steel Canada Inc. He acted for the Monitor in the restructuring of the Mobilicity Group and was lead restructuring counsel in the successful resolution of the Hollinger CCAA. He was also involved as Monitor’s counsel in the AbitibiBowater restructuring and lead restructuring counsel in the Fraser Papers restructuring. Other matters with leading role involvement include the reorganization of Bell Canada and Calpine (for major bondholders), and as the lead insolvency counsel for GE Capital Aviation Services, Inc., a principal stakeholder in the restructuring of Air Canada. Other files with lead involvement have included Stelco Inc., Canada 3000, General Publishing, Skyreach and Glenview.
