Grant practices exclusively in the areas of bankruptcy, insolvency and banking law, with a particular emphasis on the exercise of creditors' rights. Grant has developed particular expertise in representation of chartered banks, insurance companies and other financial institutions. He frequently acts as independent counsel for court-appointed officers, such as receivers, trustees in bankruptcy and monitors. Recent significant mandates include acting as counsel to the intervener The Insolvency Institute of Canada in the appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada in Callidus Capital Corp v. Canada; acting as counsel to the plan sponsor in the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA) proceeding for Wabush Mines and Bloom Lake Mines; acting as counsel to the Monitor in the CCAA proceedings for Dundee Oil and Gas Limited; counsel to the senior lending syndicate in the CCAA proceeding for Index Energy; counsel to the senior secured lender and DIP Lender in the CCAA proceeding for Co-op Atlantic; and counsel to the Monitor in the CCAA proceeding for the Valle Foam group of companies.
