JMW's head of corporate recovery and insolvency, Richard specialises in corporate recovery, insolvency and reconstruction issues, acting for insolvency practitioners and corporates on disposals and acquisitions of businesses and assets. He advises lenders on security-related issues and also provides advice on MVL's, directors disqualification and other director liability issues.
A fellow of R3 (the UK’s insolvency trade body) and a member of The Insolvency Lawyers Association, Richard was R3's North West Regional Chair until January 2017. He currently chairs R3’s Membership Committee and is also a director of R3, sitting on its national Council.
Richard joined Touche Ross in 1990 and worked on a number of significant corporate insolvencies, including BCCI. Following law school, he trained with Dickinson Dees before moving to DACs Manchester office in 1997. He joined Halliwell Landau in 1999, becoming a partner in 2003 and subsequently acting for the administrators of Allsports and the administrators of TVR. He established JMWs insolvency practice in 2009 and has since acted for N Brown Group on the acquisition of High and Mighty, for Richer Sounds in acquiring assets from Empire Direct and for the administrators of several law firms. Richard has chaired a number of conferences and seminars (both client-related and externally-organised London-based events) over the past decade and has been a speaker on R3 technical courses.
Richard was educated at Eltham College and Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge.
