Reed focuses his practice on state and local tax (SALT) controversies, including property tax, sales and use tax, excise taxes, and corporate and individual income tax. He represents clients in matters involving tax strategy, administrative challenges and appeals, and contested cases before the North Carolina Property Tax Commission, the North Carolina Department of Revenue, and the North Carolina Office of Administrative Hearings. He also handles appeals before the North Carolina Business Court, Court of Appeals, and Supreme Court. His appellate work has extended to matters before the Second, Fourth, and Tenth U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.
In addition to his tax practice, Reed represents clients in eminent domain and condemnation matters, economic development projects, and administrative and business litigation.
