Practice Areas
Petra advises on high value and complex contentious and non contentious matters relating to art, luxury assets and cultural property. She acts for an international client base including private collectors, artists, trustees, dealers, galleries and auction houses on significant issues of title, provenance, history and authenticity, including matters involving contested ownership and historically sensitive works. Her practice also includes advising on the commissioning, acquisition and sale of major artworks and collections, cross-border movement of art, museum and exhibition loans, and the negotiation of commercial terms and conditions across the art market. Petra is an accredited mediator with ADR Group and a panel mediator with Art Resolve.
Career
Petra is a Partner at Wedlake Bell and has focused her practice on the art and luxury markets for over a decade. Before pursuing a legal career, Petra studied History of Art and held research, collection management and business roles at museums, galleries and auction houses in the United States and London. Petra's academic and commercial experience in the art market makes her uniquely placed to understand her clients' businesses.
Professional Memberships
Petra is Senior Vice-Chair of the Art, Cultural institutions and Heritage Law Committee of the International Bar Association (IBA). She is also a member of the Professional Advisors to the International Art Market (PAIAM), the Association of Women in the Arts (AWITA) and the Institute of Art and Law.
