Pete Marketos is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and one of the most active first-chair trial lawyers in Texas. For more than 25 years, he has tried cases to verdict in courts across the country, securing judgments ranging from tens of millions to more than a billion dollars.
In the last two years, Pete led a six-week False Claims Act jury trial in New Jersey federal court to a $150 million verdict that grew to a $1.64 billion judgment against a Johnson & Johnson subsidiary; led a bench trial for a fintech client that, minutes after he delivered the closing argument, eliminated $90 million in claimed damages in New York's Commercial Division; and played a significant role in the firm obtaining a $52 million bench trial judgment in a midstream energy dispute in Pennsylvania state court. He also led settlement negotiations for a $100 million eve-of-trial resolution in a government-declined FCA case.
Pete handles high-stakes complex commercial cases, including energy litigation, government enforcement actions, shareholder/partnership conflicts, trademark secrets and false advertising disputes, and False Claims Act litigation. He is particularly known for excelling in plaintiff-side bet-the-company disputes.
Pete is known for creative jury work — particularly voir dire and theme development — and for precise written advocacy that preserves the record for appeal. He runs compact, partner-heavy trial teams and regularly takes over cases from larger firms on compressed timelines.
