Career
Pedro Costa is a highly experienced litigator, with more than 20 years of both national and international litigation and arbitration experience. His practice is focused on complex disputes involving corporate law, contracts (i.e. infrastructure, insurance, mining, hospitality) and commercial issues.
Pedro provides sophisticated, creative and intensive advice in pre-litigation scenarios and all stages of an arbitral and court proceeding. With great experience in the areas of corporate law, contract matters and commercial disputes, as well as in family law and succession issues, he has been involved in a huge range of disputes, such as (i) court and arbitral proceedings related to the acquisition of a Brazilian bank by a multinational group; (ii) court and arbitral proceedings related to the acquisition of a Brazilian Telecom company by a multinational Telecom group; (iii) arbitration involving the acquisition and operation of an iconic luxury hotel in Brazil; (iv) arbitration involving the modernization and operation of one of Brazil´s largest port; (v) arbitration proceedings related to the construction of several hydroelectric plants; (vi) court and arbitral proceedings regarding the construction of oil refineries, fertilizer plants and waterway terminals; (vii) arbitration involving the construction of a high standard real-estate project located in a highly valued touristic area in Rio de Janeiro; (viii) disputes related to the inheritance left by the founder of one of Brazil´s largest health group, with over USD 6.5 billion in assets; and (ix) disputes regarding the inheritance left by the founder of one of the largest Brazilian educational groups, with assets over USD 650 million.
In addition to his law practice, Pedro was part of BMA's Executive Committee from 2016 to 2020 and is now a member of BMA’s Director Committee as head of the Dispute Resolution practice.
