Oliver M. Brupbacher is a dispute resolution and investigation partner with extensive experience in the Life Sciences and Healthcare sectors, including complex commercial and cross-border litigation, investigations and arbitration, as well as regulatory, corporate and compliance counselling and risk management. In the past year, Oliver has handled a significant number of especially cross-border and regulatory investigations, a selection of which is listed below.
Oliver's practice focuses on representing national and multinational clients in heavily regulated industries and at various stages of investigations and dispute resolution, including pre-dispute advice, crisis management and information governance.
As a former senior litigation counsel, global product lawyer and head of global discovery at Novartis, Oliver combines deep expertise in his areas of practice with an intimate understanding of industry and clients' needs at all organizational levels. Clients often turn to Oliver for rigorous, spirited and connected lawyering and management of their most complex and contentious challenges that require strategic and innovative thinking.
In the past year, Oliver has been responsible for numerous complex life sciences and healthcare cases, many involving highly contentious matters for domestic and foreign clients—particularly U.S. and Japanese listed originators, generics, biotech companies, and medical device manufacturers—a representative selection of which is included in this submission (including Novartis, Sandoz, Novo Nordisk, Moderna, Recordati, and SwissPedHealth/SwissPedNet).
Oliver lectures regularly in his areas of expertise, including at the University of Zurich (lecturer for Corporate Investigations in the LL.M. program in International Business Law) and the Foundation “Juristische Weiterbildung” Zurich. Oliver initiated and co-led the newly created Basel Life Sciences Day, an international multi-disciplinary conference where experts from different areas of the industry meet to exchange views and discuss cutting-edge issues and current challenges. He is recognised for his competence and thought leadership through his publications and work in various organisations, including the ABA Section of Litigation, the Sedona Conference and the Cross-border eDiscovery, Privacy & Investigations Association. Oliver co-authored the first Swiss standard publication on internal investigations which was published in summer 2022.
