Miguel Mairlot is a seasoned banking and compliance lawyer with over 20 years’ experience advising financial institutions, asset managers, payment institutions and insurance companies on complex regulatory and transactional matters. He co-founded Ethikos in 2018, where he leads the Finance & Compliance practice.

Miguel assists management committees and boards in navigating the full spectrum of financial regulation, including MiFID II, PSD II, AML/CFT, international sanctions, IDD and GDPR. His dual background as attorney and former Head of Legal and Compliance at major international banks and wealth management institutions gives him a rare, hands-on understanding of regulatory expectations and supervisory dialogue.

He regularly advises on compliance frameworks, risk assessments, internal governance, remediation plans and sensitive investigations, as well as on cross-border structures and strategic projects. He is particularly sought after for high-stakes matters involving regulatory scrutiny and complex stakeholder environments.

Miguel also teaches financial law and frequently speaks at conferences on banking regulation and anti-money laundering. He is a member of the editorial board of the Belgian specialised review “Banking and Finance” (“Bank- en Financiewezen”).
