Mike Schachter is a nationally renowned trial lawyer and white collar defense attorney. Mike represents corporations and their executives in their most challenging cases and investigations, and handles a wide variety of civil litigation. He is a partner in the Litigation Department and Co-Chair of the Firm's White-Collar Defense Practice Group.
Mike has an unparalleled record of victories over the Justice Department in some of the nation's most high-profile trials. In 2022, Mike secured an acquittal on all counts for Tom Barrack, the founder of private equity firm Colony Capital and chair of President Trump’s inaugural committee, in a highly publicized trial alleging illegal foreign lobbying, obstruction of justice and other charges. Before that, he had won a major victory over the Justice Department in 2019, obtaining an acquittal on all counts for shipbuilding executive Jean Boustani over an alleged $2 billion securities fraud and kickback scheme involving Mozambique state-backed loans. A year earlier, Mike had been named White Collar Crime & Government Investigations Lawyer of the Year in 2018 by Chambers USA, and in 2017 was named "Litigator of the Week" by The American Lawyer for winning a landmark victory dismissing all charges in the first U.S. LIBOR manipulation case before the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. Mike was also a recipient of the award for "Most Important Development in Investigations" at the GIR Awards 2017 in connection with the same landmark victory, and was named as one of Law 360's 2017 MVPs in the area of White Collar. He was also named a Litigation Star by Benchmark Litigation (2022-24).
