Practice Areas

Melissa Maalouf advises technology companies, platforms, and digital brands on complex privacy, AI, advertising, consumer protection, and product counseling matters. She works closely with clients to help them build, launch, and scale innovative products while navigating evolving regulatory expectations and business risks.

Melissa’s practice spans strategic product counseling, regulatory investigations, and transactional support for emerging growth companies, global enterprises, and mission-driven organizations. She regularly advises on online tracking and ad tech practices, product and feature launches, consumer disclosures, subscription and e-commerce flows, vendor and commercial agreements, and cross-border data transfer issues.

Melissa also represents clients in investigations and enforcement matters before the Federal Trade Commission and State Attorneys General involving privacy, advertising, and consumer protection issues. She counsels clients on compliance with evolving U.S. state privacy laws and sector-specific frameworks, including COPPA, FERPA, SOPIPA, BIPA, GLBA, FCRA, and CAN-SPAM, as well as global privacy regimes such as the EU GDPR, Brazil’s LGPD, and Canadian privacy laws.

Her work also increasingly focuses on the legal and operational implications of artificial intelligence and large language models (LLMs), including AI governance frameworks, impact assessments, training and deployment considerations, and the integration of AI into consumer-facing and enterprise products.

Career

Prior to joining ZwillGen, Melissa was an associate in the Communications, Media, and Privacy group at Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP, where she advised clients on a broad range of domestic and international privacy, cybersecurity, e-commerce, and technology matters.
