Matthias Winter

Finance & Financial Regulation

Matthias is a partner in Bird & Bird’s Finance & Financial Regulation group, based in Frankfurt. He has many years of experience in the finance sector, with a particular focus on asset finance.

His work includes advising companies, banks, investors and arrangers on all types of financing and investment matters, with a particular focus on aircraft leasing and other forms of asset investment transactions. In the aviation sector, he also advises airlines, lessors and lenders on a wide range of other aviation-related matters, including aviation regulation, aircraft maintenance, general commercial and other aviation-specific issues.

Matthias has worked with many of Europe's leading airlines and has in particular assisted airlines in their negotiations and disputes with OEMs and large maintenance organisations. He believes in long term relationships and is proud to have been a trusted advisor to many of his aviation clients through various economic cycles and stages of their business careers.

Member of German-French lawyer’s association (Deutsch-Französische Juristenvereinigung e.V)

Studies:

• Legal studies at University of Erlangen, Germany, doctor of laws (Dr. jur.) degree with a doctoral thesis on comparative law on French and German civil law

• University of Rennes, France (Maîtrise en droit)

• Legal clerkship in Nuremberg and New York

• Admitted to the German bar in 2005
