Matthew Woods

Matthew is a partner specialising in advising owners of rural property including landed estates. Key to his success is in understanding the issues that arise in holding and retaining rural property and the importance of flexibility when considering transfers between successive generations. He has the ability to listen and understand the objectives and aims of the client but also challenge clients to consider why certain assets are retained and what they contribute to the family, whether financial or otherwise. An area of particular interest is heritage assets and the responsibilities that arise as well as the tax issues of claiming conditional exemption. Clients who own rural property often have connections outside of the UK and Matthew advises on the cross border and UK offshore rules that arise. He is able to provide a seamless service on tax and trust matters for all clients and tailor that advice to meet the needs of families.
