Matthew's practice is primarily focused on transactions driven by the energy transition, advising a broad range of clients on commercial, financial, corporate and regulatory issues. He is particularly adept at handling M&A transactions concerning gas-fired power plants, renewable energy assets and other power-related infrastructure. Matthew has advised developers and lenders in energy project developments in the UK and internationally. He also has experience of advising on structured energy transactions such as corporate power purchase agreements, tolling agreements, energy management services agreements and energy derivatives contracts.

Advising an investment bank on the provision of a debt facility to finance a portfolio of gas-fired peaking power generation assets in the UK

Advising RWE in relation to the acquisition of the 400MW Lynemouth coal-fired power plant in Northumberland and its subsequent conversion to biomass firing. Thereafter advising EPUK on the acquisition of the same plant from RWE

Acting for a financial investor in the acquisition of a portfolio of waste-to-energy, biomass and anaerobic digestion power generation projects from Green Investment Bank as part of the sale of GIB to Macquarie Group

Advising an infrastructure fund on a joint venture investment platform to acquire and develop a portfolio of solar power generation assets in France

Acting as project counsel for the developer of Marchwood Power, an 800MW CCGT power plant in Southampton
