Matthew Cockburn is Torys’ managing partner and is responsible for the firm’s overall strategic direction and client focus, as well as for all professional and administrative matters.

Matthew practises corporate and securities law, with an emphasis on mergers and acquisitions and private equity. He acts for a wide variety of private equity firms and pension funds, advising on all aspects of their investment activities, as well as in public takeover bids, plans of arrangement, and private acquisitions and divestitures. His experience spans the full spectrum from advising on early-stage investments to multi-billion dollar acquisitions.

Matthew also has significant experience in corporate finance, advising issuers and underwriters on public and private offerings of debt and equity securities.
