Matthew specialises in property disputes resolution. He has over 20 years' experience advising on all types of property related disputes and acts for a wide variety of clients including Government Departments, Banks and Foreign Controlled/UK based corporates. Matthew has experience of dealing with property disputes in all types of tribunals including Public Inquiries, Arbitrations, County Court, High Court, Court of Appeal, Supreme Court and the European Court of Human Rights. His main areas of expertise are: Landlord and Tenant: acting for both landlords and tenants in respect of various leasehold disputes including enforcing leasehold covenants, rent reviews, dilapidations, the exercise and operation of break clauses, lease renewals (unopposed and opposed) and forfeiture/possession; Property Insolvency: acting for Banks and Insolvency Practitioners in various matters including LPA Receiverships, Administrations and Administrative Receiverships; Rights of Light and neighbour disputes: acting for both developers' and neighbouring land owners' claims relating to the development of land such as rights to light. Matthew was a member of the Law Commission's Advisory Board assisting in the review of the law relating to Rights to Light in 2014; Public Law: acting in over 30 claims for judicial review and statutory appeals for a wide variety of clients (mainly claimants).
