Matteo Bazzani focuses on commercial law and restructuring and insolvency.
He assists companies, investors and creditors, both Italian and foreign, in debt restructurings, turnarounds and insolvency proceedings, including in situations of cross-border insolvency, in debtor-in-possession financing and in issues related to trade credit insurance.
He has also garnered significant experience in extraordinary transactions, assisting sellers and buyers in the purchase and sale of businesses especially in the context of distressed M&A transactions. In this respect, he advises investment and restructuring funds and other investors in so-called special situations, supporting them in seizing investment and/or financing, including through the implementation of loan-to-own strategies.
He has consolidated experience in corporate and insolvency litigation and arbitration, including with reference to liability actions against corporate bodies and auditing firms.
He was Adjunct professor of Insolvency Law and Commercial Law,Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore di Milano, Facoltà di Economia.
From 2016 he is Vice Chair of Conferences - Officer of the Insolvency Section of the International Bar Association, IBA.
In January 2025, he was appointed Senior Vice Chair of Conferences of the Insolvency Section of the International Bar Association (IBA).
Prior to joining TARGET, he was partner and head of the restructuring practice of Carnelutti Law Firm and afterwards partner in another Italian well-known law firm. He started his professional career in Mazzoni e Associati.
