María Tomillo

María specialises in financial regulation, with in-depth understanding of the asset management industry. She provides regulatory advice mainly to investment firms, asset managers and banks.

María is a partner in the firm’s Financial Markets group, leading the Financial Regulatory practice in Madrid and belonging to the international Asset Management and Investment Funds sector.

She has a business and practical approach and advises Spanish and non-Spanish financial institutions on significant regulatory issues and cross border transactions, including Brexit reorganisations. She also works closely with other specialists offering clients a cohesive multi-disciplinary service at the leading edge of the financial services industry.

She is well-known in the Spanish legal industry as an experienced lawyer in the financial sector who began practising in 2000.

Prior to joining Simmons & Simmons in 2012 and becoming a partner in 2019, she formed part of the financial regulation team at one of the Big Four, as senior manager responsible for the investment fund practice for almost 5 years. Prior to that, she spent 7 years working for the legal department of Allfunds Bank.
