Career

Marc McAree is a Co-Managing Partner at Willms & Shier Environmental Lawyers LLP. He prioritizes building strong client relationships with clear communications based on direct and forthright legal advice.

Marc leads our firm’s litigation group and advocates for clients in civil lawsuits, court applications and judicial reviews, appeals of regulatory orders and approvals, and defence of regulatory prosecutions. He counsels clients about various environmental matters including environmental aspects of land purchases and sales, share purchases and sales, asset purchases and sales, leases and financings, permitting and approvals, contaminated land, excess soil, nuisances including specific expertise in odour emissions, discharges, spills, environmental insurance, day-to-day compliance, and environmental due diligence and risk mitigation.

Uniquely, Marc has a sub specialty in on-road vehicle emissions including compliance with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) and California Air Resources Board (CARB) emission standards in Canada, and resulting regulatory investigations and enforcement actions.

Marc is also a trained mediator.
