Lauras Butkevičius

Dr Lauras Butkevičius has over 20 years of legal experience advising companies in trade, production, pharma, TMT, and other sectors on various competition and state regulatory issues.

He represents clients before the Lithuanian competition authority, national courts, and the EU Courts. Lauras has a strong record in representing association bodies and major market players in litigation against the Lithuanian competition authority. His experience includes cartel litigation, procedural disputes with the competition authority, litigation regarding blocked mergers, etc. Lauras’ practice also focuses on complex merger control matters, including multijurisdictional filings, phase II cases as well as designing and implementation of structural and behavioral remedies. He worked on the largest and most complex merger transactions of recent years in TMT, health care, trade, production, road construction, financial services, and other sectors. Lauras has also experience in acting as a trustee appointed by the national competition authority in merger cases.

Chambers Europe notes that Lauras is “solution-oriented and his creative thinking skills are top level” and “very strong lawyer with high client care capabilities”. The Legal 500 praises him for being “exceptional partner in unique cases” and mentions that “he is always very sharp and quickly gets the core of the problem”.

Lauras is a professor of practice at the Faculty of Law of Vilnius University and member of Science Center of Administrative Law and Administrative Justice. His main areas of scientific interest, research, and expertise are competition law and policy, state supervision of private undertakings, and European Union law. Lauras often gives speeches on EU and national competition law and regulatory issues.
