Kevin Chan's main area of practice is civil dispute resolution. He advises and acts for multi-national companies, listed companies, real estate investment companies, insurance companies, banks, fund managers and the shipping and transportation industry on a variety of complicated commercial disputes.
He often assists Chinese state-owned companies to deal with their cross-border and overseas disputes.
On the non-contentious side, Kevin regularly advises the shipping industry and commodites traders on their contractual documents including sale and purchase agreements, all types of leasing agreements, standard business terms and conditions and other commercial documents. He also assists insurance companies to review and draft cargo and carriers' liability policies.
Kevin Chan handles a diverse host of work highlights as head of DLA Piper's litigation practice, including debt recovery for banking clients, as well as shareholder disagreements and construction and insurance-related litigation. A client asserts that he is "very client-oriented and will always look into what we're saying and what we really need and try and find a practical solution in light of that; he's not like some other lawyers that are always making assumptions and trying to give you qualified statements, he just gives you practical advice and solutions."
