Katie Sage

Career

Katie is a specialist criminal regulatory, inquests and inquiry lawyer and practices across all industries in these areas.

She has significant experience advising on fire safety systems and has been instructed both by public and private sector organisations to advise on the application of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 to property estates of significant sizes, including for a company with 14,000 sites. She is instructed as junior counsel for RBKC in the Grenfell Tower Inquiry and as junior counsel for a management organisation that is being prosecuted in the Beechmere retirement village fire investigation.

She has experience representing companies and individuals facing charges under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, both in her own right and as junior counsel. She was instructed as junior counsel for Greenfeeds Limited in the corporate manslaughter prosecution of it, and as junior counsel for Serco Limited in the HSE prosecution arising out of a death of a custody officer at Blackfriars Crown Court in 2015.

Katie also has experience across the wider criminal regulatory spectrum and has defended companies in planning enforcement, noise abatement, housing enforcement and environmental health cases. She has prosecuted for Thames Water.

Katie’s inquest practice includes cases involving deaths in care homes, social housing and in medical settings, as well as deaths at work. Several of her cases have involved arguments on the application of Article 2. She is currently instructed as junior counsel for Reading Borough Council in the Forbury Gardens Terror Attack Inquest.
