Katie specialises in criminal regulatory, inquests and inquiry law.
Katie has experience representing companies and individuals facing charges under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974. Most recently, she represented a contractor in relation to a fall from height on an HS2 site and advised in relation to an ongoing HSE investigation into breaches of the Ironising Radiation Regulations 2017. She was junior counsel for the company in the Corporate Manslaughter prosecution of Greenfeeds Limited.
Katie has significant experience in fire safety cases. She has advised public and private organisations on the application of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 to property estates and construction sites of significant size, including for a company with 14,000 sites. She was junior counsel for RBKC in the Grenfell Tower Inquiry and was junior counsel for one of the organisations prosecuted in respect of the 2019 Beechmere fire, where the prosecution offered no evidence on the second day of trial.
Katie also has experience defending companies in planning enforcement, noise abatement, housing enforcement and environmental health cases and has prosecuted for Thames Water.
Katie’s inquest practice includes cases involving deaths in care homes, social housing and medical settings, deaths at work and suicide.
She is regularly instructed in high profile inquests and inquiries. Her recent instructions include the Forbury Gardens Terror Attack Inquest and the Infected Blood Inquiry. She is currently instructed as junior counsel to the Lampard Inquiry which is investigating mental health deaths in Essex from 2000 to 2023.
