Kathryn Hillebrands Burroughs is a partner whose practice is devoted exclusively to family law. For more than three decades, she has guided individuals and families through some of life’s most difficult transitions, providing experienced counsel with compassion, practical advice, and unwavering advocacy.
Kathryn represents clients in all aspects of family law, including divorce, child custody, parenting time, child support, premarital and postnuptial agreements, cohabitation agreements, interstate custody and support matters, and post-decree modifications. She understands that every family is different, and she works closely with each client to develop thoughtful, practical solutions that protect what matters most.
Recognized as one of Indiana’s most respected family law attorneys, Kathryn became a Certified Family Law Specialist through the Family Law Certification Board in 2002—the first year the certification was offered in Indiana. She has dedicated her career not only to serving clients but also to advancing the practice of family law throughout the state.
Kathryn currently serves on the Indiana Board of Law Examiners by appointment of the Indiana Supreme Court. She is also a member of the Indiana Child Custody and Support Advisory Committee, which makes recommendations to the Indiana Supreme Court regarding Indiana’s Child Support Guidelines and matters affecting the well-being of children whose families are no longer intact. She also serves on the board of the State of Indiana Independent Certification Organization, which oversees certification for family law specialists, and is the immediate past Chair of the Indiana State Bar Association’s Family and Juvenile Law Section
In addition to her legal practice, Kathryn is a sought-after speaker and educator. She has presented dozens of continuing legal education programs for attorneys and judges throughout Indiana on topics including divorce, custody, mediation, child support, premarital agreements, and emerging developments in family law. Her commitment to education reflects her passion for strengthening the profession and ensuring families receive knowledgeable, effective representation.
Kathryn earned her J.D., magna cum laude, from the Indiana University School of Law–Indianapolis, where she served as an Associate Editor of the Indiana Law Review. She received her bachelor’s degree in English from Indiana University Bloomington.
Her work has been consistently recognized by her peers. Kathryn has been selected to Indiana Super Lawyers every year since 2009, has been named among the Top 50 Indiana Super Lawyers and Top 25 Women Indiana Super Lawyers, is recognized in The Best Lawyers in America® for Family Law and Family Law Mediation, and is ranked in the Chambers High Net Worth Guide for Family/Matrimonial Law.
