Kathleen Egan is equally at home presenting facts to a jury and arguing legal analysis on appeal, a combination of trial and appellate skill that is rare in family law. Her practice includes negotiating and drafting prenuptial, gestational, and property settlement agreements, and she advises on complex financial matters, including the division of deferred compensation, alimony claims, and above-the-guidelines child support. A fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, she is certified by the Academy to mediate family law disputes and is board-certified for family law trial advocacy by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. Kathleen is licensed in Arkansas, Oklahoma, and New York.

Known for her work on appeal, Kathleen is frequently referred complex or novel issues after trial. Several of her appellate successes have not resulted in an appellate court mandate, as her briefs have persuaded trial courts to reverse their decisions before the higher court could reach the merits of the appeal. Her appellate experience informs her trial practice, and that experience, combined with strong cross-examination skills, results in compelling records and outcomes at trial.

Kathleen is a lawyer unlike any other in her field, holding a command of both trial and appeal that no other family practitioner possesses in equal measure. Her work in the courtroom reaches well past family law alone, into personal injury, employment, and criminal defense, and that range has made her equal to the most serious matters a family practice can present, from the wealth a significant divorce places in issue to the gravest disputes over children. She is the advocate whom other lawyers seek out when a case must be won on the law itself rather than on the testimony of a single day.

Her appellate work is the heart of that reputation. Through written argument she has resolved matters before they ever reached trial, and she has persuaded courts to reconsider and reverse their own rulings, sparing her clients the long and costly road of an appeal. When a case must be carried to a higher court, she is the one entrusted to argue it. Her command of the financial questions a divorce raises is exacting and deep, the division of pensions, retirement, and deferred compensation among them, as is her work in the matters where a parent's rights are at stake.

That same discipline shapes everything she does at trial, where she builds the record with the higher court already in mind and leaves an opponent little to seize on later. Her practice knows no state boundary, drawing clients and referring attorneys from across her region and from beyond it, and she brings to it the judgment of a trained mediator, as ready to resolve a dispute as to try it. To win a case at trial and then to hold it on appeal, and to see the appeal coming while the trial is still under way, is a combination that few lawyers possess, and it is the one she is known for.
