Kate McNeece

Kate McNeece serves as counsel in the Competition and Foreign Investment Group at Goodmans.

Kate has a wealth of knowledge and expertise on a broad range of competition law matters, including mergers and acquisitions, marketing and distribution practices, abuse of dominance, and investigations. She is a trusted advisor to companies in a range of industries on competition compliance matters, including commercial agreements, greenwashing, drip pricing and other deceptive marketing matters.

Kate also provides strategic advice on risk management relating to foreign investment review under the Investment Canada Act, including both economic “net benefit” reviews and national security reviews. She has particular experience in navigating reviews of investment by state owned enterprises and negotiation of national security mitigation agreements.

Kate is consistently recognized as an emerging leader in the competition bar, including as the only Canadian lawyer to appear on The Global Competition Review’s 40 Under 40 list of preeminent young antitrust practitioners in 2024, and as a "Top 40 under 40" by the Global Competition Review Foreign Investment Control in 2023. She is also recognized as a “Leading Lawyer: Competition Law” in The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, and recommended as a “National Leader: Competition Law” by Lexology Index Canada. Kate’s deep knowledge of the competition/antitrust and foreign investment regimes in Canada has made her a valued business advisor and a thought leader on competition and foreign investment policy in Canada, including speaking at events organized by the Canadian Bar Association and the Competition Bureau, and testifying in Parliament in respect of the impact of proposed amendments to the Competition Act and Investment Canada Act. Kate is a host of the CBA Competition and Foreign Investment Law Section’s podcast, Counterfactual, which can be found on all major podcast platforms, and participates as both a performer and member of the fundraising committee in the annual “Lawyer Show” supporting Nightwood Theatre, Toronto’s premier feminist theatre company. Kate is also an advisor to the Business at OECD (BIAC) delegation to the OECD’s Competition Committee.

She is a member of the American Bar Association, Canadian Bar Association and Law Society of Ontario.
