Karen Freeman handles a wide range of litigation matters, with a focus on complex commercial disputes, often involving multi-million-dollar claims. She routinely defends Fortune 100 clients in high-stakes commercial litigation and is frequently tapped to coordinate with national counsel to handle bet-the-company claims brought against national and global clients in Arkansas’s federal courts. Clients trust Karen to handle significant compliance matters involving alcohol and other licensing issues as well as to advise on corporate security, workplace violence and threat management programs and protocols.
Before joining Mitchell Williams, Karen was an equity partner in the Washington, D.C. and Houston offices of a top AmLaw 100 global law firm. She also gained valuable in-house experience in serving as Associate General Counsel to the Houston Rockets and Comets organization as well as to Toyota Center.
Experience
Successfully defended a major banking institution in a “lender-liability” action brought against a prominent Northwest Arkansas developer who alleged damages in excess of $50 million dollars.
Obtained partial summary judgment in a contract dispute on behalf of a global retailer, resulting in the dismissal of 95% of plaintiff’s claimed damages.
Obtained summary judgment, affirmed by the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals, in a dispute involving alleged damages in excess of $125 million resulting from alleged breach of contract, tortious interference and violations of the Arkansas Deceptive Trade Practices Act.
Obtained dismissal, working alongside national counsel, on behalf of a national transportation services company in a case involving an alleged data breach in which Plaintiffs alleged that unknown and unauthorized actors accessed certain PII.
Led defense of a national transportation services company in a case involving employment discrimination and harassment claims, which were successfully resolved following the filing of a motion to dismiss based upon plaintiff’s failure to pursue the remedies provided under the DOT related to driver safety.
Led defense of a global company in a suit involving claims that the company failed to purchase sufficient insurance to cover storm damages to a facility resulting in alleged damages of approximately $30 million.
Defended a major commodity futures exchange in a bet-the-company patent litigation.
Defended a major global retailer in premises liability and other tort matters pending throughout Arkansas.
