Juan Carlos Villar focuses on commercial litigation, mediation, national and international commercial arbitration, private and public construction disputes, corporate disputes, and international contract negotiation. He is a member of the Institute of World Business Law of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the International Bar Association (IBA), and Young ITA (Institute for Transnational Arbitration at the Center for American and International Law). He served as Coordinator of the Young Arbitrators Committee, Bajío Chapter, of ICC Mexico, from April 2020 to April 2022, and, by publication in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF, Mexico) dated January 10, 2023, he is authorized to act as arbitrator in arbitration proceedings regulated by the Federal Copyright Law.
He obtained his law degree from the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro, graduating through the academic honors route based on his GPA. He also completed a Specialization in Constitutional Law and Amparo Proceedings, a Specialization in Notarial Law, and master's studies in State and Municipal Public Administration at the same university. Juan Carlos holds a Master's Degree in Corporate Legal Counsel (Asesor Jurídico de Empresas) from the Universidad de Salamanca, Spain. He has completed several courses, seminars, and diploma programs, including the Diploma in International Commercial Arbitration offered by the International Chamber of Commerce and the Universidad Anáhuac. He has authored and co-authored articles, e-books, publications, and essays, and has lectured on commercial and arbitration matters at conferences, interviews, business forums, radio programs, and universities throughout the country, including serving as an arbitrator in the Inter-University Commercial and Investment Arbitration Competition (UP-ICC Mexico Moot), organized by the Universidad Panamericana Law School and ICC Mexico. Mr. Villar has been a partner at Villar & Villar Abogados, S.C. since 2010.
