Jonathan specialises in clinical negligence and personal injury litigation. He has wide-ranging experience across both these fields, acting for a mix of claimant and defendant clients. His cases involve complex liability issues and high value quantum, mainly catastrophic brain and spinal injuries as well as fatal accident cases. He is frequently instructed in clinical negligence claims arising from birth injury resulting in cerebral palsy and other neurological injuries. His personal injury work includes claims relating to road traffic accidents, accidents at work, and public liability claims. He has a particular specialism in equine and other animal related litigation and is well-known for his expertise in this area.

Other aspects of his practice cover sports law in particular relating to his equine work, often acting for clients in the horse racing industry; inquests including deaths following medical treatment; and professional negligence claims arising out of the conduct of personal injury litigation.

He sits as a part-time judge in the Mental Health Tribunal. He is the author of A Practical Guide to Personal Injury Claims Involving Animals (Law Brief Publishing), the only specialist textbook on this topic; writes the Westlaw Insight content on Liability for Animals; and is a former contributing author of APIL’s Guide to Clinical Negligence.
