John Wilks has extensive experience in a range of domestic and international intellectual property issues, IP and media litigation, data protection, advertising and breach of confidence work.
While he has acted for a broad range of clients, John's practice has a particular focus on the media, sport and technology sectors. He has acted for national broadcasters and newspaper publishers, major sports leagues, and a number of software companies.
John leads the firm's international group focusing on IP rights in data and has acted for the UK football leagues on a series of groundbreaking cases relating to rights in sports data.
He has also advised clients and given seminars on domain name issues, in particular the generic Top Level Domain programme, and what this important development means for brand owners. He has advised a telecommunications provider on an acquisition of version 4 IP addresses.
