John Melko’s practices encompass different constituencies (debtors in possession, committees, ad hoc bondholders, equity holders or buyers of assets) in virtually every industry. He has particular expertise in the energy and commodity, transportation, and the telecom fields, but has handled retail, food service and manufacturing cases. With years of cross-border and multinational experience in a broad range of industries, John has worked across sectors including food service; oil and gas exploration, production, transportation, refining, and marketing; electric generation and transmission; renewable energy projects; blue water shipping; airlines; and retail cases and workouts. John is well versed in liability management transactions as well as standard financings, and he frequently works with transaction and corporate counsel and boards of directors to help structure transactions in ways most protective for the client.
John previously co-chaired Foley’s national Bankruptcy & Business Reorganization Practice and currently serves on the firm’s Energy & Infrastructure Advisory Board. He also previously chaired Gardere Wynne Sewell’s bankruptcy practice at the time of the firm’s merger with Foley.
