John has lived and worked in Madagascar for almost thirty years. He has set up and run both high-tech and heavy industrial businesses on the island before founding his law firm. He has been practising as a lawyer in Madagascar for over twenty years and was resident for ten years from 2001. He has travelled and worked extensively across Francophone Africa as a lawyer, for previous employers and for pleasure. He is familiar with the specific legal and business cultures across Francophone Africa (including OHADA countries) and how this translates into the needs of listed clients in Common Law jurisdictions. John has ventured far off the beaten track across Africa, including as a lawyer, and has vast experience in communicating complex legal points to people unfamiliar with the world of international law and commerce. He enjoys interacting with people on the ground and firmly believes that investment is a force for good when the local people are brought along; he has also seen how damaging it is when Project Affected Populations are ignored, bypassed or suborned.
