Since 2005, he has advised clients on a wide range of financial and corporate transactions, particularly within shipping and ship finance sectors. His specialist expertise includes ship sale and purchase agreements, shipbuilding contracts, and financial leasing transactions, where he provides legal guidance to shipowners, banks, and financial institutions.
He is also highly experienced in corporate restructuring, playing a key role in advising Greek-based shipowners and managers in both the commercial shipping and cruise sectors. His practice extends to cross-border insolvency matters, where he helps clients navigate complex international legal frameworks.
In the financial sector, he advises on interest rate derivatives, helping clients manage financial risks through structured instruments. He also specialises in security enforcement, assisting clients in protecting and realising secured assets when necessary.
Beyond the maritime industry, Jasel has expanded his corporate practice to include non-marine sectors such as renewable energy, real estate and life sciences, advising on major transactions and financing structures in these industries.
Jasel Chauhan has had a distinguished career in banking and finance law, particularly within the maritime sector. In addition to his leadership in Greece, he serves as Head of International Finance, overseeing borrower-led financings, ship leasing transactions, and joint ventures across the EMEA region.
In 2022, he became the first international partner appointed to Hill Dickinson’s UK LLP Board, contributing to the firm’s global strategy and development. His expertise in ship sale and purchase agreements, shipbuilding contracts, and financial leasing has made him a key legal figure in major maritime transactions. He has also played a crucial role in corporate restructuring, particularly for Greek-based shipowners and managers in both commercial shipping and the cruise sector.
Jasel has been recognised as a leading expert in ship finance by legal directories such as Legal 500 (EMEA) since 2015. Clients value his strong commercial acumen and practical approach to complex legal matters. Under his leadership, Hill Dickinson’s Piraeus office has doubled in size in just three years. He was also instrumental in forming a strategic alliance with the Marshall Islands-based law firm Reeder Simpson & Magee, enhancing the firm’s offshore legal services.
He holds an LLB (Hons) in Law from the University of Essex (2002) and is a member of both the Piraeus Bar Association and the Law Society of England & Wales.
