Janet Whiting heads the disputes and investigations practice in Melbourne, with extensive experience in corporate and regulatory areas as one of the pre-eminent commercial litigators in Australia. In the last 12 months Janet has achieved a number of successful outcomes for her clients including recently defending former Tennis Australia director Harold Mitchell against ASIC in relation to allegations regarding the Australian Open broadcast rights; acting for the US agricultural company, Cargill Inc., the Plaintiff in a dispute before the Supreme Court against Glencore and the Department of Treasury in the Hotel Quarantine Inquiry. Janet also led the team representing the State of Victoria in the Royal Commission into the Management of Police Informants.

Additionally, Janet is the first female president of the Council of Trustees of the National Gallery of Victoria and was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 2015 for her significant service to the community through the arts, health and major events sectors, and as a legal professional. Janet was named one of Australia’s Ten Most Influential Women in the Westpac and Australian Financial Review 100 Women of Influence Awards in 2015. Janet also chairs Visit Victoria, the State’s tourism company.
