Jan Sovar

Jan Šovar is a partner and attorney-at-law at FINREG PARTNERS and an expert on the law of financial markets. He graduated from the University of Economics and the Charles University School of Law. Before establishing the law firm FINREG PARTNERS, he worked as an attorney in one of the biggest Czech law firms.

Prior to that Jan was the head of capital market legislation at the Czech Ministry of Finance and he also worked for the Securities Commission, the European Securities Market Association (formerly CESR) in Paris, and Deutsche Bank in London.

Jan advises fund managers and funds, banks, payment and e-money institutions, investment firms, and crypto-asset and fintech businesses on authorisation, regulatory strategy and compliance — across investment funds, securities and capital markets, MiCA and crypto-assets, AIFMD (II), PSD2/PSR, MiFID II, crowdfunding, and AML/CFT and operational resilience under DORA. Funds are a core part of his practice. He advises fund managers and funds on establishment, authorisation and structuring, and on their ongoing obligations before the Czech National Bank.

Jan is the author of the only current commentary on ZISIF (Wolters Kluwer), a commentary on the Capital Market Undertakings Act (C. H. Beck) and a widely used commentary on the Civil Code covering dematerialised securities (C. H. Beck). He lectures and speaks regularly in the Czech Republic and abroad, including at the law faculties in Brno and Olomouc, and comments on financial-market regulation in the Czech press, including Seznam Zprávy and Forbes.
