James’ practice involves all aspects of corporate restructuring and insolvency law. He regularly advises clients in reorganizations pursuant to Canadian insolvency statutes, corporate arrangements, receiverships, bankruptcies, security reviews and enforcement proceedings. He frequently represents debtor companies, secured and unsecured creditors, plan or proposal sponsors, purchasers and court officers in domestic and cross-border cases. James strives to work collaboratively with clients, stakeholders, and other counsel to find practical, effective, and positive solutions to difficult insolvency situations.
James regularly appears at all levels of Court in Alberta. He has also been to the Supreme Court of Canada, and frequently appears in the Superior Courts in Saskatchewan and British Columbia.
James is former president of the Insolvency Section of The Canadian Bar Association (Alberta South Chapter) and is currently the Communications Officer of the Insolvency Section of The Canadian Bar Association (National Chapter).
During the oil and gas commodity price recession James worked on some of the country’s largest insolvency and restructuring files, including precedent setting cases, two of which went to the Supreme Court of Canada. James has recently acted as lead debtor counsel in some of the largest restructuring filings in Western Canada.
