Hernán has worked in the firm’s Intellectual Property department since 2023. He has extensive in corporate law, intellectual property and intellectual property litigation. Hernán was a general counsel for Penguin Random House, one of the world’s largest publishing groups, and was recognized in this role by the GC Powerlist of Legal 500 in 2019 and 2022. He currently leads Alessandri’s Enforcement area and has obtained significant results in matters of piracy, illicit trade, advertising ethics, and unfair competition.

2026 – Hernán led the coordination of a major anti-piracy operation in Santiago, resulting in the seizure of more than 37,000 counterfeit books by Chile’s Investigative Police (PDI) from a downtown commercial gallery. The seized merchandise was valued at approximately CLP $1.4 million.

2025 – Representing Duracell, Hernán initiated the legal proceedings that resulted in the seizure of 85,000 counterfeit batteries unlawfully bearing the company’s trademark. The counterfeit products were destined for retail distribution in Santiago’s Meiggs commercial district.

Hernán joined Alessandri in 2023 and is currently a Senior Associate in the Intellectual Property practice. He specializes in intellectual property, corporate law, and new technologies, with experience in private practice, in-house legal management, litigation, and business advisory.

He is also a university lecturer in intellectual property, copyright, and law and technology, and serves as a member of INTA’s Anticounterfeiting Committee.
