Ms. Bao is an International Partner of Haiwen & Partners, who heads the firm’s private wealth law practice. She advises clients on PRC and overseas succession planning, family trust, family governance, asset protection, tax planning and pre/post-nuptial agreement matters.
Ms. Bao is uniquely positioned to advise private clients on cross border matters. She is qualified to practice law in China and the New York State of the US. She worked in Hong Kong for a few years and gained extensive experience in family trust, cross-border inheritance and multi-jurisdiction wealth planning matters. Her previous experience as a litigator also enables her to provide pragmatic solutions and proactive strategies.
With deep understanding of the needs and concerns of Chinese high-net-worth families, Ms. Bao is able to stand in the shoes of her clients, take into account the clients’ planning objectives and family dynamics, and provide practical, reliable, tailored and innovative solutions using a variety of wealth planning tools such as family trusts, family offices, wills, pre/post-nuptial agreements, family shareholder agreements and family charters.
Ms. Bao advises a number of well-known Chinese business leaders in internet, high technology, private equity, biotech, manufacturing, real estate and consumer product sectors on their private wealth matters. She also advises leading Chinese and international financial institutions.
Ms. Bao has been recommended as a leading private wealth lawyer by renowned international legal media, such as Chambers (Band 1), Legal 500 (Leading Partner), Asian Legal Business and China Business Law Journal.
Ms. Bao received her LL.B. degree from Peking University, and her LL.M. degree from Harvard Law School. Ms. Bao is a native Mandarin speaker, proficient in English, and fluent in Cantonese.
Acted as family legal counsel to the shareholders of a consumer products company planning a Hong Kong listing; established separate offshore family trusts for each family shareholder and a joint succession trust for the family; drafted a family charter.
Advised one of the major shareholders of a PRC A-share-listed company; drafted wills, letter of wishes and nominee agreements for the first generation; led a team of lawyers across PRC, Hong Kong and New York to prepare pre-nuptial agreement for the second generation.
Advised the co-founder of a Hong Kong-listed internet company on establishing multiple family trusts; drafted a family charter; led a team of lawyers across PRC, Hong Kong and BVI to prepare separate wills.

Advised a well-known Chinese entrepreneur on optimizing the holding structures and a holistic succession plan for his global investments, including drafting wills under PRC and foreign laws, restructuring an offshore family trust and setting up an onshore family trust.
