Career

Mr. Haeng Gyu Lee is Co-managing Partner of Jipyong, bringing unparalleled experience in various advisory sectors, including capital markets (IPOs and de-listing reviews), private equity funds, mergers and acquisitions, overseas expansion of financial institutions, project financing, syndicated loans, and asset-backed securitization.

With a distinguished track record in the IPO market, Mr. Lee propelled Jipyong’s capital markets practice to the forefront of the industry. He is well-regarded for advising several companies – the first from their respective countries of incorporation – to listings on the Korea Exchange (KRX). His clientele spans across companies from the United States, Laos, Vietnam, Singapore, China, Japan, Australia, Indonesia, and Malaysia. In addition, with his expertise in the international capital markets, he successfully advised Korean companies seeking listings on major international exchanges, including the NYSE, NASDAQ, Singapore Exchange (SGX) and Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKEX), and also successfully advised a Malaysian subsidiary of a Korean company on its listing on the Bursa Malaysia. Leveraging his vast expertise, Mr. Lee served as a legal advisor of KRX’s to attract Asian companies of excellence for listings on the KRX and provided insight on the issuance of Korean Depository Receipts (KDR) to the Korea Securities Depository as an expert advisor. He also held positions on the KRX Corporate Evaluation Committee and the KRX Listing Disclosure Committee and also served as a legal advisor of the Korea Financial Investment Association for 9 years. Further notable roles include acting as a legal counsel for the Financial Supervisory Service and the National Pension Service. He currently advises the KRX.

Mr. Lee has fostered the development and exchange of capital markets between Korea and the ASEAN countries. He advised the KRX on forming a joint venture with the Cambodia Securities Exchange and the Lao Securities Exchange, advised a state-owned company on its listing on the Cambodia Securities Exchange, and advised the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) on its project for the development of the Cambodian securities market.

Mr. Lee also played a pivotal role in the enactment of the Enforcement Decree of the Indirect Investment Asset Management Business Act regarding the introduction of private equity funds (PEF). He also advised on the establishment and management of various types of PEF and published a booklet titled “Understanding PEF”, putting together his comprehensive experiences in this area. He also provided legal advice on IPO to PE management companies such as STIC Investment, Woori Venture Partners, SV Investment, and AJU IB and currently serves as a legal advisor of the PEF Management Council.

After passing the New York bar, Mr. Lee worked at the New York office of White & Case LLP. His considerable experience in international transactions continues to enhance Jipyong's global practices.
