Dr Gregory Xu leads in the general banking and project financing offering for Southeast Asia out of the Singapore office and serves on the firm's Supervisory Council. He has over 15 years' experience structuring, documenting, restructuring and enforcing high value transactions across a range of complex multi-jurisdictional matters.
Gregory advises on multi-million-dollar transactions across a diverse range of sectors, including transportation (shipping, aviation and logistics), trade, life sciences, energy and technology. He also regularly documents green loans and sustainability linked loans. Gregory's clients include financial institutions, funds, export credit agencies, leasing houses, asset owners and Fortune 500 companies. Gregory regularly advises on corporate and commercial law instructions, and his expertise also extends to multi-jurisdictional competing security enforcement actions and restructurings, particularly those arising from insolvency and distressed situations.
He is featured as a recommended lawyer in a number of Asia-Pacific jurisdictions by independent legal directories, and most recently won the Lexology Client Choice Awards 2024 for the Banking in Singapore category and was named in the India Business Law Journal's "International A-List" 2024. He is ranked by Chambers & Partners for Banking & Finance and The Legal 500 lists him as a "Leading Individual" and "Next Generation Partner", highlighting his "fine reputation for ship finance and the broader banking and finance area" and his ability to "excel in complex financing and restructuring issues". Gregory is also recognised by IFLR1000 as a notable practitioner for banking and also project finance.
Gregory is presently admitted to practice law in New York, England & Wales, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand and chairs the Foreign Lawyers Advisory Panel of the Law Society of Singapore. He is a committee member with the Asia Pacific Loan Market Association (APLMA) and participates in initiatives of the Singapore Institute of Legal Education and Pro Bono SG. Gregory is also a member of the Financial Industry Disputes Resolution Centre (FIDReC) Panel of Neutrals and is a regular speaker at industry conferences.
