Prof. Dr. Giovanni Zarra LL.M. has a significant experience in international arbitration law (focusing on both commercial and investment arbitration) and international litigation (with particular knowledge on matters involving issues of public and private international law). He is considered to have a wealth of knowledge in international law (both public and private) and international arbitration, as testified by the appointment in the ICSID Panels of Arbitrators and Conciliators, the appointment as the Republic of San Marino’s representative at UNCITRAL (in particular WGIII, dealing with investment reform) and the inclusion in the prestigious ISDS Academic Forum. He also gained particular experience on shipping and international trade.
Giovanni is full professor of international law and international litigation at the University of Naples Federico II, Italy and prior to joining Hogan Lovells he worked, as a counsel and in support of arbitral tribunals, in the international arbitration team of a leading Italian law-firm. He has advised the Italian Government during the process of reform of investment arbitration and the adoption of the new Model BIT.
He is author of six books (including an handbook on international commercial arbitration co-authored with A. Atteritano) and more than eighty scientific articles concerning international law (public and private), investment arbitration and commercial arbitration published in primary international academic journals, as well as editor of six volumes.
