Practice Areas
Gene Matthews is a partner in Leigh Day’s London office. He specialises in claimant-led group/multi-party actions with a focus on product safety, data breach and clinical trials.
Gene is instructed on many of the firm’s high-profile group claims including a mass action by more than 20,000 car owners against Nissan/Renault for alleged use of ‘defeat’ emission devices; and claims by over 5000 individuals against EasyJet PLC following a significant data breach.
Gene is regularly instructed by volunteers and patients harmed by clinical drug trials. He successfully resolved the claims of clinical volunteers who suffered life threatening injuries as participants in the infamous TGN1412 drug trial at Northwick Park Hospital. He is currently investigating a claim relating to a participant in clinical trials for multiple sclerosis drug Daclizumab which was later withdrawn over safety concerns.
Gene is also currently instructed by hundreds of individuals who received blood transfusions contaminated with Hepatitis C in a group action against the Secretary of State for Health.
