Gabriel Querry is a partner in the Litigation group. His practice focuses on white collar crime and corporate regulatory risk management. His team guides clients across every stage of crisis management. Gabriel has conducted a number of internal investigations into financial crime allegations and has represented clients in police and regulatory investigations, advising them through dawn raids, searches and seizures, as well as through criminal and penal proceedings. He is also a sought-after expert on:
- compliance with anti-corruption, anti-money laundering and anti-modern slavery laws;
- regulation of securities, investment contracts, financial services and products, insurance, lobbying and public contracts;
- advertising laws (e.g., accusations of false or misleading representations, Ad Standards complaints and restrictions on children’s advertising) and price display regulations (e.g., drip pricing, double ticketing and false rebate accusations);
- the challenge and judicial review of state actions, including administrative decisions, regulations and administrative monetary penalties;
- cross-border investigations and intelligence sharing between agencies and authorities;
- production and assistance orders;
- the Food and Drugs Act, the Health of Animals Act and regulations on the sale of drugs and health products;
- environmental offences and regulations on cross-border movement of waste and recyclable materials; and
- the protection of privileged and confidential information.
Gabriel is one of the few lawyers who practises in both penal and commercial litigation. His hybrid practice enables him to give clients 360° visibility over the direct and collateral consequences of criminal and regulatory offences. He has also represented a number of companies in class actions based on alleged breaches of the Consumer Protection Act, the Securities Act, the Competition Act and privacy legislation. He has also been involved in transactional disputes over post-closing price adjustments, rights of first refusal and breaches of representations and warranties.
Before being admitted to the Québec Bar, Gabriel clerked with the Honourable Pierre Blais, then Chief Justice of the Federal Court of Appeal, whom he assisted in appeals on questions of public and national security law. He also advised the University of Ottawa team in the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, and has taught nominate contract law and legal drafting.
