Career

Filippa Exelin is an International Arbitration Partner at White & Case LLP based in Stockholm and an expert in commercial dispute resolution. She represents clients in litigation as well as Swedish and international arbitration and have extensive experience in major disputes across a variety of industries and areas of law, including construction, energy, infrastructure, antitrust, financial institutions, M&A, consumer & retail, manufacturing, and insurance. Filippa regularly advises clients on ongoing construction projects, primarily complex infrastructure and building projects.

Her experience also includes advising on white-collar crime issues such as risk assessments, internal investigations, police liaison, preparing for and assisting in police interviews with management/employees and assessing potential unlawful conduct by management/employees and/or counterparties.

Filippa's strong standing in the market and expertise in international arbitration has earned her a seat on the SCC Arbitration Institute's Council for International Arbitration. The Council's mission includes promoting awareness of the SCC Arbitration Institute, expanding its international network, and ensuring that Sweden remains an attractive seat for international dispute resolution. In addition, Filippa is a member of the Executive Committee of the Swedish Arbitration Association (SAA), where she contributes to the development of best practices in arbitration, helps organize training initiatives, and represents the SAA in international networks.

Prior to joining White & Case, Filippa spent several years as a judge in the Swedish judiciary at various levels (first instance, appeals court and high court). Previously, she served at the Svea Court of Appeal in Stockholm (the main appeals court in Sweden), and at courts of first instance in Stockholm. Filippa has also worked at the Patent and Market Court of Appeal and the Land and Environment Court of Appeal, both of which are high courts and precedent-setting bodies. Filippa's experience as a judge has allowed her to develop extensive expertise in effective case management, mediation, hearing management, decision making and award writing. She has completed the Arbitration Training Program organized by the SAA in cooperation with the SCC Arbitration Institute. She regularly serves as arbitrator.

Previous professional experience includes inter alia working as an associate at a top tier Swedish law firm, University Lecturer in corporate law at both Stockholm and Uppsala University Law School and serving at the Legal Protection Unit of the UNHCR, the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, and the Swedish Ministry of Justice.

Serving as party-appointed arbitrator in an international arbitration involving a dispute between two major European companies from different countries, alongside distinguished arbitrator colleagues from two additional jurisdictions.

Representing a private equity firm in multiple post-M&A disputes related to a Swedish portfolio company.

Representing a multinational company in a EUR 400 million damages dispute (Litigation).

Representing a leading European wind power developer regarding disputes under a EUR 45 million turbine supply contract (Arbitration).

Representing a leading Nordic wind power developer regarding multiple disputes under several turbine supply and service agreements (Arbitration).

Representing a joint venture of multinational constructions companies regarding disputes under a multi-billion SEK infrastructure contract (Litigation).

Representing a major Swedish construction company in negotiations regarding price adjustments under several construction contracts.

Representing a Swedish construction company in a dispute with a municipality concerning the construction of a large and technically complex swimming hall.

Representing a global company with advice in connection with police investigations where an employee of the company have been suspected of criminal conduct, including contacts with the Swedish police and support before and during police interviews with management.

Representing an international bank in actions against a company with criminal connections suspected of trying to use the bank's services for criminal activities and provided advice on money laundering issues and assisted in the direct interactions with Swedish and American law enforcement and financial authorities.

Representing an international investment company in actions against former management of a portfolio company for criminal misconduct and breach of commitments of confidentiality and non-competition.
