Practice Areas

Elliott specialises in criminal and regulatory matters, including health and safety, business crime and transport regulatory matters.

Elliott leads the Weightmans internal investigations practice. He has expertise in conducting large and complex legally privileged internal investigations for corporates across all sectors where they have discovered wrongdoing in their business, or where they have been the victim of crime for the purpose of reporting criminality to the relevant authorities or in the pursuance of a private prosecution.

A key part of Elliott’s practice relates to health and safety. He regularly advises companies relating to their health and safety obligations, provides incident response advice and undertakes internal investigations following a health and safety incident. He has acted for clients across all sectors subject to health and safety investigation/enforcement including prosecution by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and local authorities.

In business crime, Elliott has represented corporates and individuals who are subject to external investigation and prosecution for fraud, bribery, money laundering and tax evasion. Elliott has also acted for organisations subject to voluntary or compulsory information requests from law enforcement or specialist investigative agencies (i.e. HMRC, NCA, SFO).

One of Elliott’s sector specialisms relates to transportation. Elliott has advised and represented a number of large road transport operators at Public Inquiry before the Traffic Commissioners in relation to concerns with their operations and on appeal to the Upper (Transport) Tribunal.

Elliott has been ranked in Legal 500 for Health and Safety, Regulatory Investigations and Corporate Crime (Advice to Corporates) and Fraud: White-Crime (Advice to Individuals). He is also ranked in Chambers and Partners for Transport: Road Regulatory.

Elliott also has expertise in other areas of regulatory law, including sporting regulation and professional discipline, and sits for a number of regulatory panels for the Football Association and the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
