Practice Areas
Edward’s practice is evenly divided between regulatory matters and complex commercial disputes.
Called to the Hong Kong Bar in 2011, he has since 2018 specialized in regulatory matters, particularly cases involving alleged breaches of the Securities and Futures Ordinance (Cap. 571) and breaches of the Listing Rules. Edward’s regulatory practice extends into white-collar crime, where he has represented senior executives and listed companies in high-profile criminal trials and appeals. Notably, he acted for the former CEO of Convoy Global Holdings in proceedings arising from joint investigations by the Securities and Futures Commission and the ICAC, both at trial and on appeal. He is regularly instructed by listed companies, directors and market participants facing regulatory investigations, including questions of fitness and properness and misconduct by the Securities and Futures Commission and the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
Alongside his regulatory work, Edward maintains an active civil and commercial practice. He has appeared at all levels of court, both as sole counsel and as junior counsel in larger teams. He most recently successfully defended a firm of solicitors against allegations of professional negligence, upheld the will of a significant Singaporean magnate in contentious probate proceedings, and succeeded in claims on behalf of the Claimant in arbitration proceedings in the HKIAC over shares in a PRC-investment company valued in excess of RMB500 million. His ability to master complex factual and legal issues has made him a trusted advocate in both regulatory and civil arenas.
