Duncan W. Glaholt, C.Arb. is the founder and counsel to the leading and nationally recognized construction law firm Glaholt Bowles LLP. Mr. Glaholt has practiced in the area of construction law since his call to the Bar of Ontario in 1979. Mr. Glaholt's advocacy practice covers a wide range of disputes in the energy, infrastructure development and resource extraction industries, including wind, solar and nuclear power, chemical and other plants, pipelines, refineries, power plants, road building and other projects of scale.

In addition to his practice as an advocate, he sits as a mediator, arbitrator, dispute review board chair, court appointed monitor and referee of construction industry disputes.

Career

Mr. Glaholt is Certified by the Law Society of Ontario as a Specialist in Construction Law. He has been consistently named one of Canada's leading lawyers in the Construction Law category in the Lexpert/American Lawyer Media "Leading 500 Lawyers" in each year since inception, as well as receiving consistent rankings in Chambers, Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, Best Lawyers, and Who's Who Legal.

Mr. Glaholt is also an Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Toronto.

Professional Memberships

Mr. Glaholt is a Chartered Arbitrator, a Fellow of the International Academy of Construction Lawyers, Past President and Fellow of the Canadian College of Construction Lawyers, Fellow and Co-chair of the International Committee of the American College of Construction Lawyers, and is a member of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association and the American Trial Lawyers Association.

Publications

Mr. Glaholt is author, co-author and editor of standard reference books on construction law and alternative dispute resolution such as Halsbury's Laws of Canada's Construction and Alternative Dispute Resolution titles (Lexis-Nexis, 2021 and 2022) as well as The Law of ADR in Canada: An Introductory Guide, 3rd edition (LexisNexis, 2022). Mr. Glaholt has also authored Construction Trusts (1998, Carswell) and earlier editions of Conduct of a Lien Action and the Annotated Ontario Construction Act (Carswell). He is a co-author of Bristow, Glaholt, Reynolds and Wise on Construction, Builders' and Mechanics' Liens in Canada, (8th edition, Carswell, 2020). Mr. Glaholt is an Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Toronto.
