Diego Pérez Ara is a Partner at León Cosgrove Jiménez, LLP in Miami, FL. Civil and common law-trained, he helps clients navigate the murky waters of complex international disputes. His practice focuses on high-stakes cross-border litigation, complex commercial litigation, and international arbitrations before U.S. federal and state courts, as well as all major arbitral institutions.

Recognized for his excellence in litigation, Mr. Pérez Ara was named to the Lawdragon 500 X – The Next Generation in 2024. He also serves as the 2024 National Representative (Venezuela) for the International Bar Association (IBA) Young Lawyers’ Committee, underscoring his leadership in the international legal arena.

He has extensive experience litigating commercial, contractual, intellectual property, business tort, and employment matters, as well as enforcing foreign judgments and handling international fraud claims.

Mr. Pérez Ara also represents clients in proceedings to obtain U.S. discovery for use in foreign litigations and in international asset-tracing investigations. He regularly represents multinational corporations, sovereign entities, and high-net-worth individuals in commercial business disputes. His ability to manage the intricate procedural and substantive nuances of U.S. courts has made him a go-to litigator for domestic and international clients seeking resolution of their most critical matters.

Before joining León Cosgrove Jiménez, LLP, Mr. Pérez Ara honed his skills at a prominent international law firm in New York and clerked for the Honorable Kathleen M. Williams, U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of Florida. While pursuing his legal studies at Boston University School of Law, he served as a research assistant to international arbitrator William (“Rusty”) Park and as a teaching assistant for the law school’s LLM writing program.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Pérez Ara worked as a litigation associate at a prominent Venezuelan law firm, where he represented clients before the Constitutional and Political-Administrative Chambers of the Supreme Court of Justice and in trial and appellate courts in commercial, civil, labor, and administrative disputes.

Fluent in Spanish and English, he leverages his multilingual abilities and international experience to represent clients seamlessly across jurisdictions. His pragmatic and results-driven approach ensures that clients receive top-tier representation in every aspect of their disputes.
