Practice Areas

David Weitman is a partner in the firm's Finance practice, focusing on representing lenders in the complex world of bankruptcy. With a client roster that includes banks, financial institutions, hedge funds, and acquirers of distressed debt, David is experienced in navigating debtor-in-possession financing, loan reviews, lender liability prevention, lien perfection, and other critical bankruptcy proceedings.

David's practice spans multi-lender debtor-in-possession financings, post-confirmation financing, cash collateral financings, secured transactions, debt restructurings, corporate reorganizations, and workouts. He excels in acquiring businesses and assets out of bankruptcy, negotiating and structuring corporate litigation settlements, and providing strategic pre-bankruptcy planning and workouts. His experience also includes prosecuting involuntary bankruptcies and representing banks as indenture trustees in bankruptcy cases, both nationally and internationally.

In addition to his bankruptcy practice, David advises corporate and banking clients on real estate acquisition and development, construction, intellectual property, international letters of credit, computer agreements, leveraged buyouts, and equipment leasing.

Recently, David has been instrumental in representing secured lenders in the restructuring and bankruptcy proceedings of oilfield service and energy exploration and production companies. He was part of the K&L Gates team that won the 21st Annual M&A Advisor Awards for Healthcare/Life Sciences Deal of the Year (US$10MM - US$100MM) in 2022. In February 2023, he was also part of the team that clinched the 17th Annual Turnaround Award for Distressed M&A Deal of the Year (US$25MM - US$50MM).
