David is an experienced business and property barrister with a reputation as a leading junior on the Northern Circuit representing clients across the country and in the High Court on high value cases with complex issues.
He undertakes a wide range of commercial matters, including contract disputes, insurance, companies and partnerships, professional negligence and also drafting commercial contracts and standard terms; he also acts in a wide range of property disputes including landlord and tenant (commercial and residential), boundaries and rights of way, co-ownership, insolvency, trusts, probate and succession.
He has a reputation for providing clear and robust legal analysis of complex situations as well as for helping clients understand the commercial reality of a case. He is qualified and experienced as both an arbitrator (FCIArb) and mediator (CEDR) and regularly acts as an advocate in mediations, with a high success rate.
Recent cases include successfully opposing a claim for forfeiture of a lease of a zoo, farming partnership disputes, breach of confidence, business interruption insurance including a test case which went to the High Court and then Court of Appeal, and high value Inheritance Act claims, as well as urgent injunctions, summary judgment, and dealing with other procedural and interim applications.
He is also experienced working as a junior to KCs and as part of a team on larger or more complex matters.
