Daniel is a Special Counsel in Dentons Private Wealth and Tax teams.
He specialises in personal asset planning and structuring, and provides domestic and international clients with strategic advice in relation to the organisation and regulation of private wealth. Daniel also provides pragmatic and strategic advice in relation to New Zealand and international tax matters affecting individuals, trustees, companies and other structures.
He is an expert in trusts and trusteeship issues, as well as wills, succession and estates with a particular focus on cross-border and complex estates. Daniel also specialises in relationship property, including contracting out of the default relationship property regime and negotiating and settling claims on separation. His expertise extends to charities law, including the establishment, registration and governance of charitable organisations, and to incorporated societies, including re-registration under the new legislation. He is well versed in a range of other personal asset planning, family office (including family office design and governance), and family business/wealth succession matters. He also advises on residency and citizenship by investment, including New Zealand’s Active Investor Plus visa.
From a tax perspective Daniel focuses on individuals, trusts, employment taxes and GST, as well as various compliance and regulatory regimes, including New Zealand foreign trust registration and reporting, the CRS and FATCA reporting regimes, and AML/CFT. He has a broad range of tax experience acquired at Dentons and previously at Big Four accounting firms.
Daniel advises private clients, family offices, trustees, financial institutions, and corporate and institutional clients.
He regularly speaks at New Zealand and overseas conferences and writes thought leadership on a range of private wealth and tax topics.
Daniel currently divides his time between Auckland, New Zealand and Los Angeles, United States, meaning he is uniquely placed to advise American clients investing in or immigrating to New Zealand as well as New Zealand clients.
